Hilton is the daughter of Kathleen Mary (nee Dugan), and Larry Avanzino. Her father's family comes from Italian roots, while her mother's side comes from Ireland. Hilton's parents divorced after which she was born and her mother was married to Kenneth E. Richards (1917-1998), who already had three children from his previous marriage, and Hilton's two maternal half-sisters: actors Kim and Kyle Richards. Hilton also has five paternal half-siblings who are from her father's remarriage. She was a student at Montclair College Preparatory School Los Angeles where she was best acquaintance with Michael Jackson. They remained close until Jackson's death in 2009.
