Bell was the child of a white mom and an African-American father, Broadway actor Michel Bell. Bell was a graduate of San Jose State University with excellent marks before beginning his career in acting. Bell began his acting career with minor roles on a number of shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Parent 'Hood ER as well as Smart Guy. He then got a role of thirteen episodes as Patrick Owen on L.A. Doctors. In 1999, Bell was cast as Officer Ty Davis, Jr. in the NBC drama Third Watch. He was among only five cast members from the original who remained on the show throughout its entire six-season run on NBC. He was the lead in Safe, which was critically acclaimed and written by Anthony Ruivivar, Third Watch actor. The play co-starred Third Watch actors Jason Wiles and Yvonne Jung. Bell was included in the Third Watch American edition of The Weakest Link. In 2005, Bell landed a recurring part on UPN's comedy series Half & Half. Bell portrays Glen Stallworth, a San Francisco firefighter. He initially plans a date for Mona but ends up falling in love with her mother, Phyllis (played beautifully by Telma Hopkins). While he was only in three episodes, Bell was mentioned and referenced throughout the fourth and final seasons.
