 George Harvey Strait Sr. was born May 18th, 1952. He is a famous American country singer, songwriter. He also acts as music producer. Strait is known as the "King of Country"and is considered to be one among the most influential and well-known recording artists of all time. In the 1980s, Strait was acknowledged for sparking the neotraditional movement, famous for its simple, cowboy-themed image and his roots-oriented sound at a time that the Nashville music industry was being dominated by crossover country acts.Strait's popularity began when his first single "Unwound" was a huge hit in 1981, signalling the mass popularity of the neotraditional movement as well as a rebuke of pop-country. In the 1980s, seven albums by Strait topped the charts for country. In the year 2000, Strait was named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame, and won his first Grammy award for the album Troubadour. Strait was named CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 2013 as well as ACM Entertainer of the Year in both 1990 and in 2014. He has been nominated for more CMA and ACM awards, and has more wins in both categories than any other artist.
