William Ray Norwood Jr. was the son of Willie Norwood Jr. and Sonja Bates Norwood. The older sister of his Brandy is an artist with multi-platinum records, is his father. He relocated from McComb, Mississippi, to Los Angeles, California with his family in the early years of his life. In 1989, he started appearing in television commercials for various businesses. When he was eight, Norwood started auditioning for commercials on television. He was the foster child on The Sinbad Show from 1993 until 1994. His acting career was affected by this time of his childhood. Bradley Torreano, AllMusic says that Norwood's affable appearance and charismatic personality attracted the producers of Brandy's TV show, Moesha. He was assigned the role of Dorian "D" Money on UPN from 1999 until 2001.
