Angie (song)

Like many Rolling Stones songs, the song is credited to Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. But, it's generally accepted that Richards composed the majority of the lyrics and Jagger providing some of them. "Angie" was recorded between November and December of 1972. It is an acoustic guitar-driven ballad that focuses on the end of a romantic relationship. Richards wrote the song's piano accompaniment. Nicky Hopkins was a regular on Rolling Stones recordings. The strings on the piece (as as in another track, "Winter") were composed by Nicky Harrison. The most distinctive feature of the original original recording is that Mick Jagger's vocal track, which was recorded prior to the time that the final vocals were recorded and is barely audible throughout (a phenomenon often referred to as a ghost vocal). Cash Box stated that Mick Jagger was at his best, slurring words by the dozen to convey the feeling of everything that is important. "Angie" hit No. 1. on the US Billboard Hot 100 in August 1973. The UK singles chart ranked the track as the top of the chart at. 5. The track was also an number. The song hit the top spot at No. one in Canada and Australia It was also an international hit. In 1993, in an interview for the liner notes for the Rolling Stones' compilation album Jump Back The Best of the Rolling Stones, Richards said that the title was inspired by his infant daughter. But, in his 2010 memoir Life, Richards said that the name was chosen at random when writing the song, before he knew that his baby was going to be called Angela or even knew that his baby was a girl and the tune "was not about any particular individual. NME claims that Jagger contributed to the lyrics in reference to his split from Marianne Faithfull.
